Churches locations

The abanonded Agios Antonios monstery in Veni hill. Veni means uphill in the Cretan dialect and it reflects the location of the monastery which overlook the east slopes of the hill. It is a glebe of Arkadi monastery although is far way from it. The location is beautiful but it requires a four wheel car and the earth road leading up the monastery is narrow so special attention is advised while driving there. There is also newly added gate (2021) that is locked.

The two aisled cemetery church of Agios Ioannis and Agia Triada in Pantanassa is located at the edge of the village, with a view to Potami dam at the north.

Panagia (Kimisi tis Theotokou / The Assumption of the Virgin Mary) in Meronas is a three-aisled church that is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, to St George and lastly to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. It is located inside the village of Meronas and it is one of the most important churches in Amari.

Many small sized churches of the Venetian perion can be found in this area like  Agios Onoufrios cemetery church. Agios Onoufrios is a 14th century church with a distinctive stone winged altarpiece at its interior. Few hundred meters south west an ancient huge olive tree is also a living proof of the human presence in the area for thousands of years, however the late Minoan city of Syvritos just next to the village of Thronos it is a more important proof.

In the village of Thronos Panagia Throniotissa  is a 14th century church  which was built on top of an early Early Christian Basilica.
